Model, zamknięty w obudowie rack 1U, wykorzystuje przetworniki D/A ESS Sabre32 i może obsługiwać jednocześnie 52 kanały audio oferując 24 wejścia i 28 wyjść. Naturalnie ich liczba zmniejsza się w zależności od wybranej częstotliwości próbkowania (przy najwyższej obsługiwanej wartości 192 kHz jest to 8 wejść i 2 wyjścia). MOTU 8pre-es może współpracować zarówno z komputerami PC i Mac, jak również z urządzeniami mobilnymi z systemem iOS.
